So Long 2016

So Long 2016 - Thanks for the Adventures!

Some would say 2016 has been a lousy year, full of unnecessary tragedy (remember poor Harambe?) and loss (I’ll miss you and your quirky films, Gene Wilder). And some would say 2016 was plagued by political uncertainty starting with those bold Brits leaving the E.U. and culminating with the shocking U.S. presidential election in November. (Although I would argue it wasn’t that shocking, since I did predict Trump would win with my infamous cookie vote. If you don’t believe me, check my Instagram @realbacontheboston for video proof.)

But despite their different views, most humans seem happy to say goodbye to 2016. I, however, am sad to see the year end. For me, 2016 was full of excitement and adventures…

I spent the first six months of the year in Columbus, Ohio where I was born and raised. Strolling through the streets of my comfort zone without a care in the world. Then out of nowhere, my parents broke the shocking news that we were moving to Boston – Beantown, the Hub, Cradle of Liberty, the gem of New England – and just like that my entire world changed forever. But you know what they say, when one front door closes (literally), another one opens.  So I decided to turn this cross-country move into an opportunity to finally share my keen insights and opinions with you.

  • I started my Salty Thoughts blog back in May with my first post, BOSTON OR BUST, where I shared my innermost thoughts about moving to New England. I even dressed the part as a true colonial gentleman. Thus began my East Coast adventures… and my serious bromance with the Sons of Liberty - those glorious, irreverent rebels of the American Revolution.

  • But despite my excitement for the move, turns out hauling all of my stuff nearly 800 miles was bound to be traumatizing as I described in my next post, Moving is the WORST

  • My love for this great city and the American Revolution began almost as soon as I arrived. In early July, I realized the entire city of Boston was throwing me an epic birthday party in My Declaration of Independence
So nice of you all to come out for my birthday... but really, those fireworks were over the top.

  • After a few months of roaming around Beacon Hill, I set out to explore the swanky neighborhood of Back Bay where much to my surprise, I Fell in Love with the Ladies of MIT Cross Country.  It was love at first sight and I’ve been scouring the streets of Boston for those swift beauties ever since.

  • With a few months in Boston under my belt, I decided to do all my friends a favor and share my expert advice on an important topic for pups (and humans) - moving to a new city. In How to Make Friends like a BOSS-ton I shared my best secrets to socializing with strange pups and humans alike.

  • September in Boston marks the beginning of beautiful New England fall weather and the start of the school year.  After seeing all the college students move into town, I decided to get in on the action by Going Back to School, straight to the Ivy League at Harvard University. Maybe you’ve heard of it?

  • In October, I set aside my strong hatred for costumes (along with my dignity) and embrace the Halloween spirit by dressing up as a local favorite, The Best Lobstah Roll in Boston.  In this slightly humiliating post, I described my attempt to win the Faneuil Hall Halloween Pet Costume Contest in spooky detail.

  • Finally, I closed out the year with an adventure of epic proportions  - a road trip to Acadia National Park. In Acadia, I bravely tried to embrace my “outdoorsy” side as I climbed glorious mountains and traversed treacherous sandbars. Or at least I hope that’s how history will remember my first ever National Park adventure.

So say what you will about 2016, but I’d say it’s been a pretty damn good year – full of glorious naps, tasty New England treats, and exhausting adventures around Beantown. But I must admit, this year would never have been the same without you all – my best furiends and fans.

So THANK YOU for following along as I explore this wild terrain known as the East Coast and thank you for taking the time to read my Salty Thoughts. Here’s to more crispy bacon and outlandish adventures in 2017… and of course, to more salty, insightful opinions from yours truly.

Happy New Year.

P.S. If you ever feel inclined to share your own salty thoughts, please comment below. I'd love to hear more about your adventures - especially if they involve my favorite treat in the world, bacon.
