MY STORY
Some say I’m a dog of mystery. Ask me about my first three years and I’ll nonchalantly change the subject. Those were dark and scary times. But like so many other brave rescue pups, I survived. Soft and cuddly by nature, but I can be tough as nails when the situation demands. And for three years (or so my vet tells me) I was in survival mode. Then one day in June 2012, something amazing happened. Call it a miracle, call it destiny, or call it a stroke of puppy luck. Whatever you prefer. That day, the Capital Area Humane Society found me in a precarious situation. I’ll spare you the details but suffice it to say I was a scrawny 12 pounds. After a month of the royal treatment, I was on the mend and back to my fighting weight (a whopping 27 lbs!). More importantly, I was back to my salty old self.
Meanwhile, my future Mom and Dad were scouring local shelters for the perfect Boston Terrier. Just when they were starting to lose hope, Mom turned on the TV one morning to see a special on the Capital Area shelter. And what spectacular sight did she see but my sweet, charming face. She took one look at my irresistible mug and knew I would be the perfect pup. After my TV debut, I returned to the shelter to settle in for a long afternoon nap. Then this strange lady soon to be my mom showed up and started tapping on my kennel. I tried to avoid eye contact, but she didn’t go away. Before long I was headed to a new home with my new mom and dad.
Still highly suspicious, I sniffed out every square inch of my new house. Then I peed on every single tree on the block. Multiple times just to be sure. After a few weeks, my new parents were passing my preliminary tests (the perks are pretty nice, did I mention the bacon?) and I decided to keep them around. Three years later, I’m still king of the castle. I sniff out the streets and spend hours perched on the porch scanning for suspicious characters. Then I chase after my stuffed pink pig until he pisses me off just a little too much (currently on number 7). In my free time, I ponder life’s greatest philosophical questions like… freedom vs. security? Republican vs. Democrat? Smooth vs. crunchy peanut butter? Sausage vs. bacon? (Bacon, obviously.)
Occasionally, when the mood strikes me, I share my thoughts on my blog, Salty Thoughts. Or post photos on The Bacon Strip. Or work on my "online presence" on Twitter (@BaconTheBoston) and Instagram (@realbacontheboston). I hope you’ll read my posts and share your thoughts with me. I love to meet new people and make new friends… from the comfort of my own home.
May your days be filled with sarcasm and salty bacon strips.
Sincerely,
Bacon the Boston
